DIAZO GROUP CHEMSITRY

Our group research focuses on the development of methodologies for the construction of privileged heterocycles/carbocycles. We are particularly interested in the chemistry of diazo compounds. The diazo compounds are undoubtedly one of the most potent classes of organic compounds in terms of their versatile reactivity profile considering their participation in several reactions including 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions, ylide formation, Wolff rearrangement, C-H or X-H insertions, cyclopropanation, cyclopropenation etc. The unique reactivity of diazo group originates from its inherent ambiphilicity owing to the nucleophilic diazo-bearing carbon and electrophilic terminal nitrogen atom. The reactivity umpolung in hypervalent iodine diazo compounds and diazo sulfonium salts further diversified their already versatile reactivity profile. Their recent application as substrates in visible light photoredox catalyzed reactions has further enriched the arsenal of diazo-group chemistry.
